Snapshots: Reflections of Women is a newly-commissioned collection of works created by local choreographers and dancers. Snapshots increases the visibility of women’s experience through the language of the human body while highlighting each dance group’s individual spirit and repertoire.  A full range of dance styles, cultures, aesthetics and approaches transform the stage into a forum sharing and celebrating women’s perspectives and stories.

Nicolas Lincoln: Jane
Spawned from the artist’s own friendships with creative, beautiful and intelligent women, this emotionally evocative piece questions society’s perception of women. Through dance, Lincoln unveils unwavering feminine compassion and delicate strength.

Maia Maiden: gangED
Gang: An evocative word that conjures up images of rowdy violence. But look beyond the words. Gang can also celebrate community. It can connote a powerful force that seeks to originate or create change. Explore the strength and love of this misunderstood word. As women, we often struggle for identity, seek community and create unity with one another.

Jennifer Ilse: Expedition of Coat (and Me)
This new solo piece is inspired by the journey of growing up in a close-minded small town in the ’70s — exploring what it means to be a contemporary woman and a person with integrity in this world. Through an alter ego, a coat and an empty map, Jennifer launches on an expedition in search of a balance between what we hold on to and what we let go.

Denise Armstead: DAdance
The intimacy and non-verbal communication between horse and human is the visual metaphor for two duets that examine the intense complexities of male/female relationships. Two different perspectives — expressing the power of emotions.
