Sweet Honey in the Rock is a Grammy Award-winning, African American, female a cappella ensemble
with deep roots that weave gospel, jazz and blues into a kinetic art form that ultimately transcends them all.
The six women in the ensemble join their powerful voices and percussion instruments to create
a blend of lyrics, movement and historically rooted oral tradition.

The collaboration of many individuals and groups in the community makes possible this 35th anniversary
visit to the Twin Cities. Sweet Honey is more than a singing group: They are a traveling and
community-based cultural institution, dedicated to the preservation and celebration of African American
culture through performances, workshops, lectures and community dialog.
